The purpose of these undergraduate research grants is to encourage research by students as a part of their education. To date, 143 student projects have been funded for a total of $190,000. Currently, students receiving the research grants must submit a written report on their work. Many students present their research findings at local, regional or national meetings; in 2004, for example, 9 of the 13 projects funded were presented through posters or talks at professional conferences. Their reports and presentations would be improved by the equipments and services of an ACS, especially the large format printer. This would allow the student’s work to be showcased not only college-wide, but at regional and national meetings which would increase our visibility and improve our reputation.
